Skin Renewal Notes

An independent Los Angeles publication on chemical peels, microneedling and PRP, written for the reader who intends to spend well rather than often.

Skin renewal is sold in this city the way wine is sold in Napa: with vocabulary. Medical-grade, signature, regenerative. The words arrive before the facts.

When the facts do come, they are often a menu with prices attached. This publication was started to put the facts first, in long pieces that leave room for the caveats a brochure omits.

We cover three procedures: chemical peels, microneedling and platelet-rich plasma. We cover them slowly, one question at a time.

We do not perform treatments and we do not sell them. We read the trial literature, we speak with people who have sat in the chair, and we write down what we would have wanted to know.

The standing rule is simple. If a claim about results, safety or downtime cannot be stated honestly with its limits attached, it does not run.

When a provider is named on this site, it is as an example a reader can check, never as an endorsement.

The luxury stance, in one sense only: we assume the reader would rather have one treatment chosen well than four chosen from a menu. Precision is the indulgence here, not price.

Los Angeles shapes every recovery, and the sun is the reason. Freshly treated skin and a September afternoon in Griffith Park do not mix, so readers regularly ask where to spend a peeling weekend.

Shade is the answer. The botanical walks at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens keep more canopy than most visitors expect, and a hat does the rest.

A marine layer is not protection, and neither is a car window. The rule for a treated face is the same in June as in October.

The city's parks charity, the Los Angeles Parks Foundation, maintains a map of shaded green space. For this purpose it beats any clinic aftercare sheet.

Timing matters as much as place. Most readers underestimate how visible the third day after a medium peel is, and plan the calendar around the appointment rather than the recovery.

Parents planning a medium peel around a school break can check term dates on district sites such as Pasadena Unified's. A week of peeling is easier to hide when nobody needs a lift to school at eight.
